The Colorado sports betting market just took one of the largest bets in Super Bowl history.

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale wagered $3.46 million via DraftKings on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the current +3.5 spread (-127).

What does this have to do with Colorado?

McIngvale lives in Texas where sports betting isn’t legalized.

So he flew into the Colorado Springs Airport on Wednesday night, got on the DraftKings app, and placed his historic wager. It’s the largest in the market’s history since the launch last May.

Before the overturning of PASPA in 2018, McIngvale would have to fly to New Jersey or Las Vegas to place this bet.

Now he just makes the short flight to Colorado.

If Brady and the Buccaneers cover the spread, McIngvale would win $2.72 million.

As Mattress Mack said in the release:

Given his previous betting experience, the sportsbook was quick to oblige.

Most notably the owner of Gallery Furniture store in Houston placed more than $11 million on the 2019 World Series between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals.

As ESPN pointed out, McIngvale routinely uses the betting market to mitigate risk on sales promotions at his store.

Super Bowl LV is no different.

The site adds that customers at Gallery Furniture who spend $3,000 or more on a new mattress will get their money back if the Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

As Johnny Avello, sportsbook director of operations at DratKings, said in the release:

“Mack is someone we have history with after taking his sizable wager on the Astros to win the World Series a couple seasons ago. For Super Bowl LV, Mack is handicapping the game out of pure belief that the Buccaneers can either win or at least cover the spread. We are not strangers to taking significant action, particularly on one of the biggest sports events in the country. Looking at the way we have booked the Super Bowl so far, bettors are laying -3 on the Chiefs and taking the Buccaneers at +3.5 as fans try to get the best possible line.”

As for Super Bowl betting and Colorado market, “Mattress Mack” is bucking the trend.

At PointsBet, Kansas City initially opened as 3.5-point favorites (-105), but it saw a quick dip to the key number of KC -3 on Monday, where the line has remained since.

Currently, PointsBet has significantly more action on the Chiefs side (78% of spread bets and 92% of spread handle on the Chiefs) to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.
